Happy New Year Danceliners!
What about starting the new year with an inspirational speech from Maya Plisetskaya? The concept of this speech is focused on being a dancer as an artist who is able to touch the emotions of the audience thanks to their dancing. Dancing is hard work, exercises and much more than that, but dancers shouldn't forget that dancing is also feeling something and making the audience feel the same! :)
Maya Plisetskaya (born November 20, 1925, Moscow, Russia, U.S.S.R.-died May 2, 2015, Munich, Germany) Russian prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow, admired particularly for her technical virtuosity, expressive use of her arms, and ability to integrate acting with dancing.
Plisetskaya, a niece of the dancers Asaf and Sulamith Messerer, studied with Pavel (or Paul) Gerdt’s daughter Yelizaveta and with Agrippina Yakovlevna Vaganova and graduated from the Bolshoi school in 1943. Plisetskaya was noted for her unique, individualistic portrayals in both Soviet and classic ballets. Her repertory included Zarema in The Fountain of Bakhchisaray; the title role in Laurencia; Mistress of the Copper Mountain in The Stone Flower; Kitri in Don Quixote; Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis, in Giselle; Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty; and the dual character Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, frequently considered her greatest role.
Plisetskaya performed in a number of countries and was a guest artist with the Paris Opéra in 1961 and 1964. Her performances were recorded in the films Stars of the Russian Ballet (1953), Swan Lake (1957), Plisetskaya Dances (1964), Anna Karenina (1975), and Carmen Suite (1978)-in the latter two starring opposite her protégé Alexander Godunov. In 1964 she received a Lenin Prize for outstanding work in the arts. She appeared in ballets by such non-Soviet choreographers as Roland Petit, Maurice Béjart, and Alberto Alonso. From 1975 she also performed with the Ballet du XXe Siècle of Brussels, and she was artistic director of the Rome Opera Ballet (1983-84) and Spain’s National Dance Company (1987-90). Her first choreography was Anna Karenina (1972).

They are both…queens!
Outstanding
1:20 5:44 the difference 😮
Another proof that back in the days you just could be the best with pretty average level of skill 😂
❤🎉 Fukuda 👑
Simply incredibly great!!! She is one of the only ballerinas who dances precisely to the beat of the music!!! AWESOME…!
Zakharova's arms are simply mesmerizing. It feels as if she's weightless and effortlessly flying on them. That plus her cheeky/seductive expression. So wonderful.
Ballet is art, not sport.
Have the fuulballet starring zakharova on DVD. .. she is just beautiful in this !
I don't know a lot about dance but the first dancer seemed to have a lot of strength in her feet, so that her top half and bottom half were in unison. The middle dancer had less of that. The last dancer was very expressive in movement so it was less awkward but not as great as the 1st
It's sad how the effect of watching this on a video is different than watching it live which is x1000 a better experience in person, still, you can feel how magical and impressive these performances are.
All three are gorgeous, but Zakharova’s Nikiya is exquisite and unbeatable in my opinion
I agree stunning !
Former dancer here. The worst is having to stay on the stage after it happens s and trying your best not to burst out laughing. There are so many nerves involved when performing! When someone falls is like releasing a pressure cooker 😂
Sylvie - a legend. The rest is great but Sylvie was born to dance this piece.
From a healthy body to a suffering body is all I saw.
She is awesome!😊❤❤
I could watch her dance for HOURS... she's so wonderful.
I liked Svetlana’s interpretation more, although Lopatkina’s performance was exquisite. My feeling is that Zakharova’s dance captured that of a dying animal. Osipova’s dance reminded me of Pavlova’s interpretation of the dance. Maybe it is that Osipova and Pavlova have the same body types…more athletic instead of grace. My thought is that Zakharova is the prima ballerina assoluta among all female dancers and that, one day when she retires, Lopatkina will assume the honor. Osipova is wonderful in her own right when it comes to her magnificent jumps. She just doesn’t have the “lines” needed to convince me that she is better than the other two. Perhaps her performances in other ballets are better but Svetlana’s performances always leave me “slack-jawed”.
Ok lol theh looked cool
Interesting... As a non-dancer, I found the first dancer to be stiff & pretentious. Then, after watching the whole video, I went back & watched Efremova & now she's my favorite. 🤷🏻♀️
LA OSIPOVA ES LA DANZA MISMA, ES UN CRIMEN PARA TODA BAILARINA COMPETIR CON LA OSIPOVA, NO HAY COMPARACION, TODA BAILARINA PIERDE BRILLO ANTE LA OSIPOVA
CUALQUIER BAILARINA PIERDE BRILLO ANTE "LA OSIPOVA",... LA OSIPOVA ES UNA BAILARINA QUE MUYYYY RARA VEZ TENEMOS EL PREVILIGIO DE VER BAILAR, LA OSIPOVA ES INCOMPARABLE.... HAY BAILARINAS FANTASTICAS CON EXCELENTES TECNICAS,... PEROOOOOO.... ANTE LA OSIPOVA DESAPARECEN... DISFRUTEMOS LA OSIPOVA , ES UN REGALO QUE NOS LA VIDA.
Why didn't the audio match the movement in the last vid? Editing? Or was the dancer really off beat? I can't tell.
The first dancer is how we all imagined ourselves as young girls dreaming about dancing to this song. Incredible how that woman will forever be dancing in her prime for us even when she’s gone.
Steven! Merci. ❤
The second dancer is my favourite, beautiful 💕
Marianella reigns
i would also like to be strong
In mí opinion María Khoreva Is the best! Bravoooo Maria
It's the mark of a master to make something very difficult look easy. She made this look easy indeed.
My favorite❤❤❤❤
Why do both Russian dancers leave the arm broken at the wrist. They look like claws. Also the variation is so slow.
You should put Nunez at the Bolshoi to get an even comparison. ROH's productions are just beyond boring...
Bellissima.fanciulla.🩰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🩰🩰🩰🥰🥰🥰🩰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I don't like Vasiliev tbh, my choice is Daniil 🩷
Osipova is on another level. Sorry
I loved her in Strictly Come Dancing, I miss her being on the show she was a great judge
I remember being onstage during covid, and the girls in my class fell off the stage while walking off stage😅😂
She is for me real star!!!!!
